How / Where to install an engine block heater?
Hello Good People,
Its that time of the year and being farther up north I am dealing with much colder weather.
Its negative 7 degrees F which translates to negative 19 degrees.
For good measure I want to install an engine block heater but need help getting started.
Where to install this?
What brands are should I be looking for?
What should I be looking out for?
Thanks

If you want the original LR engine block heater style then it's PRC9674G.
You remove a freeze plug and install (see the instructions below).
I've never used or installed one of these so you are on your own.

RN shows both a genuine and aftermarket...

OverRover aka President,
Thanks as always for the quick and helpful response.
Its so cold today. I started the truck and had a to wait a minute for the oil light to go off. I know this will help and have spoken to many Northerners that swear by them.
As soon as I get a relatively warm day I will install this and hopefully be good to go.
Thank you!

The block heater that replaces a freeze plug is good if you have a readily available mains power source but I have bought a fuel burning heater to go in my engine bay as I am not always lucky enough to park on the drive and it will be handy for the winter off roading trips where we are off the beaten track for the day and it can kick in and out as necessary to keep the coolant up to temp especially when the heaters are flat out cooling an already cool running diesel engine.

Plumbed into the coolant lines and it uses a quart an hour of diesel to pump out 5kw of heat, not fitted it yet but when i do i will make a full blog post so others can see a start to finish install of a second hand coolant heater.
Webasto fuel burning coolant heater.
I know that air heaters have become insanely popular now that the ****** are in on the game, eBay has hundreds to choose from for about $150 brand new, just search "5kw fuel burning camper heater" or "planar fuel burning heater" and there are loads, don't worry if you're running a gas motor, these things come with a fuel tank for the diesel.
