Default I was trying to put it off till forever but... Waterpump

Disappearing coolant wasn't that bad and I knew I had a slight leak from the water pump, but today after going into the store. OMG

I really was trying to put it off until the rapture or the sun swallowed the earth maybe even 2012 but at this rate, its not possible.

How hard is this agian? It just all unbolts from the front correct? I need to remove radiator I presume. I know i could look at the rave but your answers are better..

And wheres that cheap pump at agian? Rover something or other.com

Oh and this is a very good smily and we need others like it to express our rovers.

I bought mine locally. Had to remove the radiator fan (of course) and the serpentine belt. unbolts from the front of the engine. Mine took a whopping 45 min.

pretty easy job on the D1..just remember to stop by your local auto parts store that loans out tools and get a fan clutch removal tool...some reason 36mm comes to mind..is that right? They should have the whole set on loan.

I used 1 1/2 inch spanner and a rubber mallet for the fan clutch. Took me an hour for one out one in.

Put some antiseize on the clutch threads when you put it back on. I got mine off with channel locks. It does not spin backwards, just normal. Take the fan off, then remove the belt and whammo, take the pump out.

Took me about an hour.. remember to bleed the coolant too...

$106 is a lot of money, but let me help you put it into some bit of perspective: That is for a brand new one, right? It should outlast a part store pump 5x. Every time I buy a rebuilt one from NAPA I get about 1-2 years out of them. I've actually quit buying NAPA rebuilt water pumps altogether and buy new ones. On a Disco they are pretty easy to change. Try doing one on a Cadillac with a transverse V8 in the engine bay? Pretty tight. You'd rather pay that extra $50 for a new one not to have to do it again. If you get 10 years out of that pump, you will have gotten your money's worth.
