I'll be that guy....
First off, my name is chuck, and I just wanted to say this forum has been very helpful in my quest for a new fishing vehicle. It was between a discovery and a jeep Cherokee, and I'm more of a comfort kinda guy so I think I'm going in the right direction. Now for my questions.
I'm going to look at a 95 discovery tomorrow morning. Needs a windshield and a dr side door handle. Not to worried about that stuff (anyone have any idea how much for a windshield on that beast?). What I am worried about is, the guy said it has a long crank, like 15 seconds. He assumes a fuel pump, I haven't seen the vehicle and won't have any tools when I do see it. My research shows fuel pumps/anti-drain back valves are common issues. Am I just making that up? Also what else should I look for/common issues? I hear the early discoveries are the ones you want if you're gonna go off road. I also see that rovers in general have their issues. Now I should also say I'm a service manager and was a ford master tech for 8 years so I know 1 or 2 things about horseless carriages, im just looking for insight on common rover issues. Thanks for your help!

Long crank could be fuel pump. If you turn on the key, but don't crank, for about 2 seconds, pump will run for a short time. Repeat four or five times to prime pump, then crank. There is a test valve (tire valve) on the passenger side fuel rail. Should see 32-34 psi there when pump running.
Edit - my bad, no cam position sensor on the 95. Should have looked in the RAVE, the factory shop manual set, free link below.

If the truck is a 95 the only crank position sensor is the distributor. Long crank could be any number of things, if you end up needing a fuel pump the ProLine from Rovers North is only about $100 last I checked. Could be as simple as a tune up though.
Here you go.

I think the 95 does not have a crank or cam sensor, I could be wrong.
