Have you located an adapter for the OM617? Or do you plan on making one yourself?

I have an email from Mark in Oregon saying if I get him a LR tranny, he can make an adapter for the OM617 to LR tranny. Problem is finding a 5 speed to send to him. An auto would be easier, and might be all that is needed for the adapter with our own footwork to figure out the clutch.

WOW! Sooooo many questions.

1. where is part 2
2. Was he using the Auto trans or a 5 speed.
3. Did he make an adapter plate or?
4. Engine looks like it fit in nice in the video... Did he have to modify the oil pan? if so? how and is there pictures or video.
5. Whens he going to start offering this as a service to other LR owners...

I actually watched the video twice... makes me want to do this so bad I can taste it...

I could take the manual off this one I'm getting and ship it to him if it would be good for a pattern, I have a feeling he is talking about the automatic trans though right?

Over the last 45 years that I have been driving, I have owned pretty much one of each type or brand of vehicle that you would come across in the United States. A few more Fords than others. By far the best single vehicle I ever had the pleasure of owning was a 1986 Mercedes Benz 420SEL. An excellent vehicle.

I would not hesitate to go forward with the conversion to the MB engine.

Another favorite one of mine was my 1986 Volvo 240DL. That was the most awesome running 4 cylinder I have ever driven. It was extremely fast and got excellent gas milage as well. 164 cubic inch in line 4 cylinder. I do not know if one of them would be compatible in a Discovery, but those were awesome engines as well. It took the place of my 1979 Datsun 280ZX 2+2 which gave me some trouble at 300,000 miles. Up until then it was awesome, in-line 2.8 six cylinder. The Volvo amazed me in that it was faster than the Z car.

I might be willing to trade you my 97 Discovery for that 87 560SL.

And I did not even mention my 1986.5 Porsche 928....................

I've read that thread several times already. My problem is the adapter plate and bushing needed to use the R380. The adapters available I have seen are for mounting the OM617 to the auto tranny. The adapter should be the same, but the fitting of the clutch is where I see the issue. Also, no one offers the adapter anymore that I can find. Rod Davis in VA was working on a kit, but no more info is available since Pirate ticked him off.
