Installing a Spal fan...
I aquired a Spal 16" fan with shroud(looks like it is the same size as the radiator) that pulls 2360cfm. I looked up the Taurus fans, they pull 1050 cfm each. I'm thinking of installing it in my DiscoI. Any thoughts? I was planning on installing a fan control(about $90), to help with noise levels and so the fan doesn't have to turn on until the engine reaches operating temp and can operate a varying speeds at lower engine temps. It claims to be able to piggyback on the oem sensors, or you can install a new temp sensor on the vehicle. Anyone have ideas on that? I hate turning on a vehicle with an aftermarket fan that runs all the time.
I don't do flex-a-lite. Just a personal preference. I like Spal. And the switch I plan on putting in will allow the fan to have variable speed control to minimize noise. Not just on and off. Also, the Taurus replacement fans pull 1050 cfm each, for a combined total of 2100cfm(if you add the two fans together) according to NAPAProlinks specs on the flex-a-lite replacement fans.
My one Spal fan will pull more than the two Taurus flex-a-lites.

1. Turn your fan off for water crossings.
2. Have dual fans. If one he's out good chance the other will work.
3. I live In mud land and find it quite impossible to fill a fan up with mud.
4The stock mechanical fan is pretty small can easily be stored and put back on in seconds if e fans fail.

and would be cool to see...I've only seen vehiocles do that in mud. But besides that, mud will be the death of a fan, whether mechanical or electric. But both are waterproof...at least, Spal claims to have waterproof motor housings for their fans...but if I ever got my vehicle in that much water, I'd probably kill the engine until I could get it out and dried off...do you know any history of that pic?
