Default K&N air filter vs. MAF??

I have been a big fan of the K&N filter line for years on my older cars. I am having reservations though (I'm over thinking as usual) about using a K&N air filter on my '95 as I am concerned that the oil used to soak the filter will, in small doses, flow through into the air flow sensor and cause gumming of the sensor. Since these damn things are so sensitive I'd hate to create a problem while looking for performance. Should I just stick with the dry fiber filters?

Let the opinions fly....

Stick with the paper filters.
The DI MAF is not as sensitive as the DII MAF but they cost $1500 new so why chance it to save $1 at the pump and gain zero horse power?

Also, the K&N's don't filter as well as a quality paper filter, so why would you want to introduce more dirt in to the engine?

agreed. this comes up a lot on the forum. and every time there is an MAF problem the first questions asked is "do you use a K&N filter?"..

stick with paper, you wouldnt notice any improvement with a K&N anyway. These are off road rigs not race cars.

lol... I'm certainly not looking to race my rig. I simply like the better airflow and reuseability. They are good in certain applications but not in my case since most of the trails we have around Florida are either muddy swamp or dusty and sandy so the K&N is not a good choice for me. Also yet another reason I love the oil bath air filter on my '66.

Paper it is... thanks for the feedback.

They make higher flow lifetime filters that require no oil.

Or you can look up a brands flow. I seen a test done similar to the OIL filter test.

Truth is, the better it flows the more dirt it allows and the worse the flow the cleaner it is. But thats common sense.

I have been running a K&N for the last couple of years, I just don't oil it. Guess I'll go back to the paper one.

Not oiling your K&N air filter is just like running with no air filter at all.
They use the oil to trap and hold the dirt, no oil and all that dirt is going directly into your engine.

AFE makes a dry filter similar to the k&n that doesn't require the oil and is washable. Its something I have been looking into for a while now, at 4wheelparts here in Bakersfield, Ca they run about $50, just my 2 cents.

I am going back to the paper element. Bought the K&N before I joined here and was unaware of the issue.
