Key fob refurbishment. Much better range now
My key fob has been on the fritz lately. I cracked it open and found some weak solder joints. Some quick work with a soldering iron has improved performance dramatically.
There were actually two problems with mine. Two of the solder points on one of the micro switches had broken completely. That was pretty clear and easy.
I looked at the board more closely and realized the big solder point right in the middle is what carries current from the battery. A weak/broken solder reduces current and limits range.
I soldered that up and it is working like a champ now. It locks/unlocks on the first push of the button and from distances I've not experienced in a while. >30 feet and I really didn't bother testing the outer limits.
This picture shows the un-repaired battery solder point and the two points I repaired on the micro switch.
