So I just measured, and my '96 DI's body sits 2-1/4" lower on the port (passenger) side as measured from the tire to the edge of the wheel well in the rear. Front is only about 1" apart side to side. It looks like I'm smuggling a fat guy in my glove box when it is parked and empty. Aside from the obvious, ie sagging springs are there other things I should be looking at? Is this common? The fact that it is one side vs front or back has me a little concerned, and if possible for now I'd like to avoid a $1000 old man emu kit.

Any advice is appreciated.

 

I hate to say it but new springs are in your future. I think mine leaned about an inch lower on the passenger side. On the brite side nows the time to put a lift in if you want. Check with Lucky8, Justin is starting to carry Terrafirma lifts at a reasonable price compaired to OME.

Whats reasonable? I found the terra firma 2" on Rovers north for $600.
Or is that who you are talking about? I am getting ready to do a lift on my Disco so I am price shopping!

 

find somebody parting out a d1 and get the springs. I just got a set for my DII somebody was giving away.

 

I am told that the body mounts can go bad in Discos. The giveaway, I think is if the bumper is at a different angle than the body. So if the body leans, but the bumper doesn't it's a body mount.

Caveat - this unconfirmed second hand information and could be complete rubbish.

 

Last time I checked Port was left and starboard was right. Is yours right-hand drive?

Another economical route is like I did, I put new OME heavy duty plus 2 inch on the rear of mine that I bought from a friend that had gone thru a few Disco's and he had a set left over that was purchased but never installed. At his advice, we moved my existing rears to the front of my Disco and it worked just fine.

Rovers North often has a set or individual springs on their "Specials" pages at good prices, usually discounted due to appearance items like a scratch, and they have the ES9000 Pro Comp plus 2 shocks for 200 bucks or so for all 4.

My total cost was less than 350 for springs and shocks.

You dont need to spend the $700 for the OME set.

 

Ya, but paying the difference is sure worth it. You get a tried and road proven suspension compared to a set of no name coils with no history and a set of shocks with a history you don't want.
Just my extra $200 worth.

 

I'm still on the fence about which kit to buy, though I am leaning (just like my Rover) towards the OME medium duty (happy medium between on and off road).

One question that comes to mind; if most of these kits provide between 1.5" and 2" of lift, are there any issues with drive line angle given the extra ride height?
