Look what I found-photo-7-.jpg

Went to the auto store this weekend for the millionth time, and look what I saw. He was pretty enthusiastic telling my about his disco. Said it was a 97 special version with a reinforced frame or something for racing? Had lights, rack, snorkel, OME suspenion. Back was packed to the brim with stuff because he'd just come up from Panama on his way to Canada. Said it had got him through lots of scary terrain.

I took the encounter as a good omen my Rover might run this weekend

I've never heard of any discos with a reinforced chassis from the factory.
Nice looking rig though. Sounds like a great trip too.

reminds me of that movie Days of Thunder when Robert Duvall is like "you can take him on the high side, your last stop i put a set of special extra sticky tires on there"

Yeah I can't remember exactly what was supposed to be different about the frame. I should have taken a look under.

Also said the combination of Borla exhaust, cat delete, and snorkel made a big difference in power.

I just read about that option on a UK site. It didnt reflect any detail as to what it did.

He may have said it had something like C and U crossmembers.

I guess we could just buy another crossmember, drill some holes, bolt it on, and call it reinforced

I imagine its just boxed in so the rust will have a place to live

The chassis on Land Rover's have always been box sections.

Did he say anything about Camel Series or anything like that. They do some factory rigs for Rally type events, but do not know if they are actually reinforced.

There are also some aftermarket speciality places that beef them up for industrial and other special purpose applications.

" I got a Special Purpose" "You do? I got one two!"

I like those Special Extra Sticky Tires too. I put em on all my race cars.
