heres the link

1996 land rover discovery

went and test drove and it felt sluggish. is that normal? it did ok under normal acceleration but if I floored it, it would take a while to start moving, kind of like no overdrive but from take off. the other issue I noticed is no flow on the upper rad. hose. What do you all think?

He also just lowered it from 2000 last night

I've been looking forward to being a Disco owner for a while, hopefully the problems aren't too big.

It depends on what you are used to. My other 4x4 is a 52 with a straight 6 in it. Compared to the old army truck my D2 is right peppy! Lol.

I have to be honest with you,
My d2 has the sports package and even with the tranny in sport mode it has trouble getting out of its own way. They are heavy and underpowered. That full time 4wd doesn't spin up too fast. Our v6 jeep liberty will dust it off the line. It's still fun to drive, but it won't win any races. Even with other 4x4s.

What does the ATF look like on the dipstick? Maybe the transmission is having problems. The throttle valve cable got replaced on my old D1, and was left a little loose. I tightened it up, and it became much peppier. Before adjusting that, it would shift at 4000 rpm even when completely floored. (which isn't the driving style recommended anyway... but that's a different subject)

I hate the acceleration of my 98 BUT I didnt buy it because I wanted to go fast. I also have a 07 BMW X5 thats a rocket ship in comparison, but the Bmer wouldnt go over a curb without lifting a rear wheel.

what about the rad hose,I don't see it getting hot, like there is no water flow, the reservoir begins to boil.

I'm thinking either clogged rad. or bad water pump.
