Default For the Love of Pete.

Been tinkering on the land pig for a couple years now. Have had my share of headaches.
Today I figured I check out the ECU. Have my reasons. So I had to get the washer fluid reservoir out of the way.
Holy divine savior! What the h-e double hockey sticks was the thinking on that one?
All the time I had allotted for that was shot to siht on the reservoir issue.

know the feeling!when my washer pump died i bought a generic from autozone and thought easy peazy, took awhile just to lift and place aside, probably smart to look at the pumps since they are cheap [if not original] and there's a rubber grommet that holds them that overtime disintegrates.good luck

yeah - oddly prolly the most difficult item to remove in the entire engine bay - the washer bottle! Mines been leaking after a reinstall- some gromet prolly not seated properly - but I have yet to bring myself to fix it since I know the joy that awaits

Pulled out all these trying to get to the two phillips.

Ended up using the cut-off wheel. Should of done that in the first place.
Poked a hole in the top front right corner of the jug. Finger just went on through. Very brittle in that spot. Gorilla Tape.

What are you guys talking about? Two small ny-lock nuts under the fender in the passenger side front wheel well and another up by the cabin air filter. Takes all of 2 minutes.

had to grind mine off too - replaced with normal bolts so I can get a spanner in from the side (on the engine bay side)
yes you can use a phillips if you happen to have the correct length mine were either to short or too long (hitting the hood)

WaltNYC,
The two phillips screws just spin around. Don't know if they are supposed to be fixed into the bottom of the jug or what.

when you put that back together....tack weld the new bolts to a strap, that will hold them from spinning in the future

Mine was leaking washer fluid the day after I bought it. So proud of myself, thought, "hey, I'll start ownership off with a simple repair!!"

Life as a Rover owner started with this fruitless, horrible project. I've never attempted it again. Damn thing can leak all it wants.

Same here... the first nut came off easy and when the second (outboard, more inaccessible) one just spun, I spent the better part of a half hour trying to hold the head until just cutting the damn thing off.

Nigel must have laughed for hours after spec'ing those Phillips head bolts.
