Lucas 3TXB Remote Programming (also, hello!)
Hello, friends! Long time lurker, first time poster.
Recently scored a 98 Discovery 1 at a yard headed for the crusher for $450. 140k miles, mechanically quite sorted, and a frame clean enough to eat off of. The catch? Interior water ingress, mold, and a mouse "situation" that would gag a vulture.
While pulling a nice set of seats from a salvage vehicle at a yard, I snagged an original key and Lucas 3TXB remote - for free, no less! I was unsure if I'd be able to get the remote operational, as some documentation I've read had me believe that remote programming was possible only in the event that one already had another remote that had been programmed to the car in hand. As luck would have it, after popping a new CR2032 battery in the remote and plugging in my Launch X431 scan tool I was able to put the security system into learning mode and pair the remote!
Added bonus, the key I picked up at the yard also starts my Disco, which is nice because I had only a single ilco X239 key (the kind without the black plastic covering). Though, to be fair, I can also start it with a screw driver, a robust popsicle stick, and various other objects of the long and thin variety.
Anyone have success extending the range of communication between the car and remote by lengthening the antenna wire in the car?
Wishing all reading a happy and healthy holiday season!

Congrats on the newest rig!
I came across a thread about how to get more remote range by soldering a wire to the key fob's remote antenna. It didnt work for me. Our good friend Paul Grant said "Whether you have a 17VT alarm module in a 94/95 or a 10AS module in a 96/99 DI, they both have a wire that runs out of the module and up the right interior a pillar. Thats all there is. Its nothing like the DII."
I have yet to get in there and do this mode. With your rig's interior out this would be a perfect time for you.
