Default keyless remote

I just purchased a 97 Discovery. The po did not have the factory key. I'm assuming the Discovery has some sort of factory alarm of some sort. Can i just buy a key and have it cut and programed?

on my 96, the key and the remote (plip?) were separate. There isn't a chip or anything in the key, so as long as you never lock with the the remote (which should be easy, since you don't have it) you should be able to use a cheap copy.

I guess you need a dealer computer to program it. On the 94-95 with single button remotes, I guess you can program it yourself (with a helper).

Would that work with a 97? Or was it different in 97?

the 96+ D1 is the first link, two button. It says you need to program it with the computer. The second link is for the older style. I guess they wanted to make it more secure on the newer ones? either that or they wanted to make more money for the dealers.

Locking the drivers door with the key arms the alarm, you do not need the remote to use the alarm system.
Yes you can have a copy made, IVECO 4? is the key blank you want.
Just Google it.
If you get the genaric blank any key shop and cut it for you.

Looks just like the one I had on my 96, where the lock button is worn smooth so that I could never tell which button to push.
