Default Maf? Or something else?

I have a '98 D1 lse. It was idling high (1500-2k in park, 900-1100 in gear). I put a new iacv on, but nothing changed. I got a new (used from Rover Land) maf, that seems to have helped some but it's still racing when it's out of gear. I did however notice that it's working much better when the maf is simply unplugged (idling at 700 in park and 690 in gear) I would say just leave it that way, but with the maf unplugged, it doesn't want to crank.
Can someone smarter then myself tell me what I'm missing? Am I even on the right track?

If you installed a new IACV, then your adaptive values need to be reset.

I can try that, but it looks super technical. I think I'm sure to bung it up. Did I even need to replace parts? After reading your thread, and the one linked, it sounds like the reset might have been all I needed in the first place.

If the idle went high it's probably a good idea to stick with the new IACV, there's a reason it went high and a bunged IACV is usually the cause. You'll want to be sure the port is cleaned up of any hard packed carbon, it prevents air passage (air volume is how the idle is set, idle speed port is behind the throttle plate) and the new IACV pintle from achieving full bore reach.

I had to replace the iacv because it crapped out. Had the same symptoms but didn't touch the maf.

I had the same issues, ended up needing to adjust the throttle position sensor. Resetting adaptive values did not work in my case.

Me too and many others through my years on the boards. Yeah, that's kinda of a not so good thing, unplugging your motor's air volume sensor. Kinda makes the motor run like poop when the skinny pedal is pressed.

Well... When I did the thing, it only gave me the one dot and that was all. I took it for a long drive anyway and it stalled and would not restart and had to be towed. It's done this twice before but has always restarted after a few minutes. (The last time was in the center lane of I275 in the middle of downtown Tampa) After that I replaced the fuel pump (the $20 one) and thought the problem was licked. Until now. Any thoughts.

Probably a maf at this point. I had to replace mine when it would die at stoplights.
