Default Mushy Steering on 98 LSE

I have a stock 98 LSE, which has brand new Yokohama Geolanders on it. It sways all over the road. I thought getting new tires would change the way the thing drives, but I was wrong. Does anyone know if changing the steering stabilizer shock makes the steering tighter and less floatie? I feel like I am driving a boat, especially on the highway. I have checked all the ball joints, the steering joints, and the shocks. All seem to be in working order. It has 98k miles on it, and has spent its life in the city. That is going to change this weekend though, with a trip with Ohio4x4.com members.

check your wheel bearings, with the wheels jacked up see if you can rock the wheel from top to bottom.you should have hardly any play.

It doesn't make it feel tighter, but if it is worn it can make the steering feel floatie, simple way to check is to remove it and drive around the block and see if you find any difference. (if it was badly worn, you will find that the steering will be tighter but you will feel more of the bumps shaking the steering wheel) Though check the wheel bearings as mentioned above first...

I do have the leaky power stearing pump, but I check it regularly to make sure it stays full. I have checked the bearings and everything is nice and tight. Could this just be the tires?

check the steering damper. it might be getting weak. The other stuff others have already covered. Duboff

Default LSE vs. base D1

Trying to choose btn two D1s… a ‘98 LSE 138000 mi in British racing green (is this possible or did it only come in westcoat grn?) and ‘97 base model 117,000 mi in white.
both super clean, same price , and for arguments sake let’s just say assuming all else is equal - WHICH ONE ?? I just like looks of white ‘97 better and don’t love the ‘LSE green for some reason - but wondering how much more value LSE might have?
After reading this thread I’m going back and forth like a ping pong ball. Thank you for any input ! new to this thread, a 16 yrs D2 owner

I happen to have a ‘98 LSE in BRG and I love it. It’s a rusty beast, but she starts every time and gets me home every time!
