LOL!!! Seriously? Dont worry about it.
I'm not laughing at you, I'm laughing with you, that thing will run forever with that little noise.
One of my old work vans had a lifter noise like that, 2 years and 120k later it was still making the noise, and the last I heard with 350k on it it is still making that noise.

Once it heats up and ticking starts, what happens if you take off plug wires one at a time?

What does it do when you rev it up?

I would tend to agree with Spike all the way on this one. My biggest concern would be once anyone tears into an engine to start doing any sort of repair, especially for the first time, you are basically "opening a can of worms".

Not criticizing you in the least, but it is possible to create a whole lot of expensive problems in a big hurry. And the cost multiply quickly. Enough to buy an already redone one is some cases.

Sounds like you really want to tear into an engine. It would be very interesting, possibly fun, definitely a new learning experience and one I try to avoid unless it is really got to be done.

You may want to see about getting another engine to tinker with and prep for an installation rather than tearing into something still running pretty good. But if you are determined to tear into that one, just be well prepared. I realize your availability is a possible issue being in a somewhat remote location as your beautiful paradise is.

Do you have the faclities available to you for sending things out like if you did need to get something done by a machine shop, like getting the heads machined? I would think there would be some availability, but not what us mainlanders have. But we do not have the beach right at our door, at least I do not.

If you decide to, of course keep us informed. And we are with you all the way.

Ask yourself, do I truly want to tear this engine down. If you do proceed with it, then do everything that would be a major chore to do later if you do not accomplish it now.

I think Eric would be a good person to talk to as he did a pretty extensive repair on his.

You may get by with less than what he encountered, but it is something to consider.

While you might run it with noise, it may bother you. You could run 20W50 oil (it is warm where you live).

Ask SWMBO for an old broom, one that is no longer in flying condition. Cut off handle. Poke handle on valve cover, and put ear to other end. Listen for noise. Compare to other valve cover. If one is much louder, problem may be under that valve cover. Risk = 1 gasket.

If you pull off plugs and noise changes a great deal, that piston could be involved. See https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...rite-up-48197/, and note that member Pedronz also did a similar post without photos, without pro shop, just some kerosene, emery cloth, and a piece of wire in New Zealand. Hey, it's an island, and certainly you can do what any ten fingered Kiwi or mechanic can do, maybe slower, but still good.

Easy for you to say Spike...I saw your glass on the plenum video. No noise there.

Danny, I know you think I want to tear apart the engine but I would be happy with an elixir remedy..trust me.

I'd like to know what it is to see what's required in fixing it. I don't like it...makes it sound like a farm truck which is fine if I keep it on the farm.

OK, Sava, so you think I should pull one plug at a time..in any old order? I'll do the broom trick (hey you calling my wife a witch?) I think the plenum chamber seems to vibrate harder when it ticks. I need to look at it closer now including the valve covers. I read that main/crank bearing thread but everytime i read something i think i have that problem. i also think i have the slipped sleeve but i read that in the D2 section.

No, they have to have flying monkeys to reach that level.
