New Discovery 1 purchase
I have just purchased a 1996 Disco 1. Epsom Green, 165000Kms in excellent condition. The car drives as smooth as silk and I am already hooked. I had a P38 for 7 years and have been an English classic car enthusiast for over thirty years so I am used to all the trials and tribulations these cars can bring.
On day two I have started to find some items not working so would appreciate your advice.
1. Back door and RHS rear door actuators do not stay up and the doors won't open unless I pull the buttons up.
2. Rear windscreen wiper not working. Rear windscreen washer OK.
3. Rear windows not working from any buttons. Fuse OK.
4. Back door heated windscreen not working.
Who is the best company for new and secondhand spares.
Cheers
Barry

+1 on No. 3 as Walt stated. - It takes more effort and time to get the unit out then to resolder the joints. If you dont already have one pick up a jewelry type manifying glass to identify the cold (cracked) solder joints. Or just reflow them all. anyone who can work a soldering iron could do it.
Walt: No. 1 - would the spring cause the locks to not stay down when locking aswell?

Hi,
Good advice. At first I thought it was the rear door actuator as the plunger appeared loose after being engaged with the key fob. But then yesterday I popped into the Land Rover spares and service centre and they told me it was the door lock springs. And they said the same as you that the solders in the window ecu break down. So to save me from panic buying the wrong parts I have agreed to take the car in so they can go over it both electrically and mechanically to let me know what needs doing and which parts are required.
Cheers

I had the same exact issues fixed them all in the past 2 weeks.
2. Rear windscreen wiper not working. Rear windscreen washer OK.
New wiper button
3. Rear windows not working from any buttons. Fuse OK.
Swap with known buttons first from front windows or sunroofs. Then I did the jumper hack it works!
4. Back door heated windscreen not working.
Took the button out cleaned it, used it 7-8 times and it started working.

Hi All,
I live in Christchurch New Zealand.
Just to let you know all the electrical gremlins have now been sorted. The garage cost was way higher than I expected but having messed around with the dash I can see these things take time. .. especially with the flimsy plastic. It's like working with eggshells.
We went out shopping and the wife pulled down the sun visor and the clip broke. So I have ordered a new pair which are coming from Latvia of all places.
1. Back door and RHS rear door actuators do not stay up and the doors won't open unless I pull the buttons up. Actuator and spring replaced
2. Rear windscreen wiper not working. Rear windscreen washer OK. Replaced multi function module which included the front headlight washers. All now working
3. Rear windows not working from any buttons. Fuse OK. Replaced window ecu.
4. Back door heated windscreen not working. Cleaned up terminals at the rear door
I have now replaced the standard exhaust manifold with a set of extractors and removed the cats. Impressive change in performance even though I haven't yet started tuning the ignition. This is proving to be a great car to drive.
Next is an underbody steam clean and change all the fluids.
Cheers
