New to LR
Hey y'all . . .
I bought my first LR a month ago, a 1995 Discovery I. I'm in the middle of working my way through the hi-mileage service that Disco Mike so graciously posted. While I'm new to LR, I've been maintaining my vehicles since I started driving 7 years ago.
Here's the situation: I'm reading a code 17 from the diagnostic display under my passenger's seat. The symptoms of a bad TPS are there: poor gas mileage, lagging throttle response, weak engine performance, etc. Looks like I'll be purchasing a new TPS soon.
Is this a reputable parts dealer? Good sensor?

Or am I barking up the wrong tree? Is there another solution? I know LRD2&ME was doing something to this end, but I'm not sure if anything was ever found.
Anyway, another problem I'm facing is my MAF sensor. Check out the pic. The screen is loose and dangling if you can't tell. I'll be replacing that piece soon as well. I know K&N air filters will destroy an MAF sensor, and a previous owner left one in the air box for me to find, but have you guys ever seen one of these filters causing this kind of damage? Surely K&N filter oil wouldn't cause something this bad . . .
Let me know what y'all think of this replacement part, too.

It is significantly less expensive than all the other replacement MAF sensors I've seen, so I'm inclined to question this one.
I look forward to hearing back from y'all.
Thanks
Scotty

No that's not from the oiling that is some sort of blunt force trauma to the screen. Bp is good. Most of us use Atlantic British, landroverparts.com, roversnorth.com, rock auto or if you're going to get deep contact Will Tillery or Paul Grant. I'd prob ping them on a maf and tps (report) lol...before you purchase retail. Also go to savanna buzzs sig and download the RAVE if you haven't done so yet. Btw how many miles? Also stay away from the KnN air filter.
If it is just the screen, does the whole maf need to be replaced?
When I recently cleaned mine, I had to look closely to see how the front ring co0mes off and the screen comes out. After cleaning my MAF with CRC MAF Cleaner Spray, my 97 is running like a beast, wish I had done that four years ago when I first got it.
New Champion Plugs and NGK Wires and a new WIX air Filter it is performing much better than I ever thought it would. I have a totally new opinion of these engines now. When they are right, they are pretty peppy. Not a wheel smoking race car, but who wants that in a 4by4.

As far as the starter, check the ground connection from the starter to the frame before changing out the starter. They tend to corrode and will give you an absolutely dead intermittently starter condition.
I laugh about the rock climb being "scary". Take alook at the videos that Longhaul posted of them going to the off-raod park that he and Turf and a whole bunch of others went to if you want to see some totally awesome rock and water crossings. Turf ripped his newly attached fender flares completely off while LongHaul used his top rack as a skidbar against a tree. Lot more challengiing then the little paved rockslide playground at the LR Dealership. Those rocks aren't even loose are they, set in concrete from what the video showed.
