New temp issue?
I was working on the disco today.I changed out the front shocks,replaced the fuel filter and put in a 88c thermostat and replaced upper hoses. After refilling
the reservoir and cranking her up the temps increased normally until around
160 and quickly shot up to 220? The thermostat was installed with the hole at 12 and spring side in the block. Perhaps a bad thermostat?I am scratching
my head.

If it were a locomotive.. That spike would be your head, Or Steam Temperature... 
I suppose I should have elaborated a little more.. Start with the engine cold...
Park on an uphill or ramps to get the front up.....Preferably the right front corner.... Take the plug out of the radiator... Hopefully you'll find some air... Fill it mostly up.. Start it up.. TURN ON the heater...Take the cap off the resevoir as well.. Let all the water from the res go into the system.. Wait till the thermostat is open and the coolant is flowing and then top it off. Then put the plug back in and fill the resevoir to the fill mark..
It might belch a little as the system is warming up and the air is getting out of it... That's why you don't want to start with the radiator completely full if it's not already..
Observe over the next few days and hot/cold cycles and top off the coolant till it stabilizes...This should purge any remaining air out of the system.. But it sounds like you've got more than a bit in there..

Thanks for the responses guys,I tried to bleed the air this morning and it did not seem
to want to. I removed the heater core line while parked on a pretty steep hill and that did the trick.Took it for a spin and the hottest I ran was 192.At idle in traffic it sat at 185.I am more than happy at those temps.
