Default Newbie to Land Rovers

I just bought my first LR. It is a 1998 land rover discovery. I have a lot of questions regarding Land Rovers.

1) I have a leak that is in the cargo area and I cant seem to figure out where its coming from. Any ideas?
2) I am having some issues finding certain parts. This is mainly interior pieces like the cargo area pad under the carpet and the wood trim pieces.
3) I would like to run a 33 inch tire what would I need to get to accomplish this? I was thinking a 2 inch lift and fender flares?

I am sure that I will have more questions. These are just a few that have popped up since I started removing the interior last night.

Thanks

1. A leak in the cargo area is most likely to be the seal on one (or both) of the alpine windows. That area is also prone to corrosion. The exterior body on the Discovery is an aluminum alloy but the roof is steel.
2. For those 'hard to find' bits call one of the fellows who part out these trucks.

Paul Grant / classicroverparts@gmail.com / 203-770-1699 and
Will Tillery / willtillery@roverguy.com / 540-462-7353

are two of the more well known and respected guys.

3. General guideline on lift....if you go over 2" you are likely to need a double cardon front drive shaft.

It helps to have your location in your profile and it is useful to put the year and model of your truck in your 'signature'. All that can be found in the 'user cp' section. Look for the link near the top left portion of the forum.

You can find all the workshop manuals in the link in my signature. Have at it. They come in handy.
Good luck!

Thanks for your assistance. I added my address and my vehicle to my signature.

I was looking at going for 2in and the fender flares to obtain the look I want. I'm doing a pretty simple build. Right now I'm just doing the basic stuff like bleeding the brake lines and checking everything to make sure it is road worthy. I noticed the leak when I started removing the seats and taking the carpet out. What is the solution to the sunroof leak? I also need the pad that goes under the carpet in the cargo area.

Thanks
Chandler

If it is a sunroof leak (which is another good possibility in addition to the alpine windows) you'd probably want to drop the headliner and check the drain hoses. That is pretty common also.

Headliner is pretty easy to drop. There is a write up in the 'Sticky Discovery Series I Tech Section'. That entire thread and all the links to common issue solutions is well worth your time as you discover all the quirks of your truck.

Excuse me I meant to ask about the alpine window leak. Is there a good solution for that issue?

Best to drop the headliner and get eyes on the backside of those window seals. Corrosion is a common problem around the edges of the window cut-out (the roof is steel) and that can foul the effectiveness of those seals.
