Default o2 sensor extraction

I cant get my o2 sensors out.

Started on driver side post-cat. Sprayed with PB, and got engine to temp. I couldnt find the right size o2 wrench, so I started with a 17mm wrench. No dice and got the nut a little rounded. Went to vice grips and fully rounded it.

I got a set of flare nut wrenches. The 17mm fit perfectly. Started on the passenger side post-cat, but it started to round again, so I stopped.

How much would it cost to get a shop to get all these out?

You can always cut the wires and throw a six point 17mm socket on it.

That would be fine for the post-cat (I dont know how much help that would be...they are tight), as the wires are somehow already partially cut on them.

I would like to preserve the integrity of pre-cats though as I was planning to use those for the post-cat.

I ended up cutting the wires on mine and using the six point socket.

All the specialized ones I saw were plastic and I doubt they would work well.

At this point you are just going to make a mess of things unless you remove the Y pipe with the Cats. Patients is the key. Do yourself a major favor and get it out of the truck where you have all angle access. Even out of the truck you might not be able to recover the forward ones. Flare wrenches are not going to cut it. Even the specialty ones will eventually spread enough to round it.

good luck it is a crappy and frustrating job

upstream sensor on both sides are the most pain in butt to get out but it was easy with a 17 mm wrench with a hammer, it took me little over a hr to do it...

I called an indy shop yesterday. He wanted $250 to replace them with me providing the parts. That seemed a little exorbitant. I asked how much it would be for him to just crack them loose and he said he would not do that.

I then remembered that I could try the wild west a.k.a craigslist. For those that have extracted stuck ones yourself, what would you say a fair price is to just get them loose (without taking the y-pipe out)?

Let me suggest this, do the rear one still work? Wires still intact and no codes from them? If so leave them alone and just replace the front with the new ones, go ahead and cut the wires and slip a deep socket over them and make sure your driver is as square as possible.

With a good six point, and PB Blaster, they should come out. A cheap socket may break.

Well, The drivers side post-cat has 2 cut wires and is also f-ed up from trying to vicegrip it out.

I dont remember what the codes were, so other than that one, I cant remember which were still ok...possibly all 3.

My plan was to put 2 new ones in the front, and put the two old fronts into the back.
