Default Odd headlight issue- highs and lows

So tonight my headlights started to act very strange. Everything is fine til I go to put my high beams on- I get NOTHING. I Can sit there and flick the high beams all day but once I try to put them actually on, it goes dark!

Any ideas? I was offroading a wee bit so I had the highs on for a while but I let the truck sit for a bit and it still does the same thing!

Thanks.

without any more to go on, it's sounding like the switch has given up on you.

Unless BOTH of your bulbs are bad (BOTH high beam filaments) I agree with X. Most likely a dirty or burnt contact in the stalk switch.

Put your nose close to the light switch by the steering column.
If it smells of burnt, the switch is cooked.
Rebuilding the switch is easy.
Still, check the Hi filament first.

Replace your bulbs first.
I had a similar problem with a Chevy wagon I used to own, all four head lights worked when the highs were on, but when the low beams were on I had no lights at all.
Replaced both high beam headlights and all worked as normal once again.
This was back when you replaced the whole head light as one unit and not just the bulb.

The bulbs are fairly recent (last week) Silverstar Ultras.

Put your old bulbs in and see if the problem goes away.

I have had nothing but problems with the Silverstar headlights.

Thanks.

I just had the same problem. What did you find out. Was it the switch? I can pull the switch lever all the way back and the high beams will stay on but will not lock into place when I release it, just go completely out. thanks

I had exactly that same problem and it was the relay. Easy fix. I still don't know why it would work if I held the lever, but not on their own. You know what I mean Garret. But it was the relay.
