Lightbulb Offroading In 4X4 Low not diff locked

Is ok to lightly offroad in the standard operation of 4 low unlocked?
Or should you always use diff lock when off road?

It's totally fine to leave the diff unlocked for some light wheeling. It's actually probably better that way. Leaving the diff unlocked is probably nicer to the tcase. If it were me, I'd ONLY engage the diff lock if I was starting to or just about to have a difficult time in low range unlocked.

not fully true. half of the d2's have the ability to lock the transfer case. but only 04's have the ability to lock the TC with cable linkage it came with from the dealer.

Why wouldnt you use diff lock off road?? It's one of the best parts about having an LT230!

What Ed says is true. Your t-case has diff lock you just dont have lever to engage it..

If you are off road you should always lock your CDL. The Rover Center Diffs are very strong but only when they are locked. When you have wheelspin from your adventures off-road and your CDL is not locked you run the risk of blowing up the spider gears in the differential.
The only reason I can think of unlocking the CDL off-road is to make a tight turn

If you have to wonder if you need your CDL locked or in low, you don't.

my '03 doesn't have a diff lock. i am installing an '04's.
either way, half, over half, most, even if it's there it can't be engaged unless you add linkage to it. if you can't activate it, it's basically not there.

Even without the linkage people can slide under the trucks and turn the nipple manually to engage the diff lock when off road. they just need to be careful not to burn themselves on the flaming hot exhaust and cat.
