Default Oil Filter

I dont know if this has been discussed or not but I found an oil filter that will give us an extra quart of capacity (cooler oil, better filtration etc.) it is a wix 51773, you can also cross reference that to a bunch of other filters but the wix is readily available at o'reilys. anyway this is a 6.5" filter compare to about 2.5-3.5" from factory. It should give about .5-1 quart of extra capacity. D1 has plenty of room for this.

Hey, thats cool. I have seen some numbers on here for a k&n or mobil-1 filter with bigger capacity, but don't like their price. And I've been using WIX and like them.

If you use a relocated steering damper it won't fit.
More importantly, it doesn't filter as well, only down to 32 microns.
I'd stick with the 51515.

I use the mobil 1, it costs around $12. Used a fram one time and took forever to get oil pressure at start up, changed it out after a day. So there is something to be said about the extra cost.

I stick with Napa Gold. I have seen the inards of the Fram, Napa(select, silver and gold), Wix, K&N, Penzoil(and others) filters, and personally prefer the construction of the Napa Gold filters, Main difference is the oil bypass valve. Napa Gold is best in my book for oil filters. The others have been known to fail.(which shouldn't be a problem if you do regular oil changes.)

I use a napa gold(wix), but not the 51773/1773(napa equiv.). Do all gold/wix filters only go down to 32mic's? I thought they were supposed to be good.

I used a fram one time, and had the same prob, with taking forever to build oil pressure. Never again.

No, I was talking about the 51773. That's why I advised to stay with the 51515, which is the "long version" of the stock filter.
