Oil Light stays on, car wont start
Hey guys, I got a 97 discovery 1 that just wont start. The oil light stays on which has never happened before. the car turns over but wont get going. Its the 4.0 L
Could it be the oil pump?
Could it be the oil pump?
Oil light is s symptom and not a cause. Once the engine starts, sufficient oil pressure turns out the light. Because it's not starting you have no oil pressure and therefore the light stays on. There are literally dozens of scenarios that could cause the no start, starting with no fuel in the tank to a problem with the timing chain. You should get a code reader and report back any codes you get. Then diagnosis can start.
Yep read the codes. Air/Fuel/Spark are your 3 things you need. If any one of those isn't there = engine will not run. Could be a bad CPS, bad wiring to the CPS, bad fuel pump, or bad fuel pump relay.
I had a mechanic come over and test the car. First we tested the spark plugs they weren’t getting power. We tested multiple. Then He climbed underneath and found that the crankshaft position sensor was totally unplugged. We plugged it back in. He also said that the spark plug wiring housing unit (the opposite end of the engine plugs) was super loose. Recommended changing them.
The battery looks kind of old as well, but has never caused issues.
when he plugged in his computer to the car it did not read the car. It was unable, before and after he plugged in the cps.
the car would still not start after plugging in the cps. (It IS the original sensor. I’m thinking of just changing it anyway)
what do you guys think

First is the battery fully charged? You should have 12v at the OBD2 port on pin #16. Second did you guys fully inspect the CPS wiring harness? I can't tell you how many I've seen that are shorted out causing a no start issue. No spark is a sign the CPS is the issue. You don't have a bright red LED flashing on the center of the gauge cluster do you? If it's immobilized = no start as well.
