Do you have a LR shop or something of that nature?

If you have some of the ones you have removed, I would be happy to do a forensic examination upon them as I have an extensive background in electrical assembly failure analysis and corrective action from the Cruise Missile program. Send me a few.

I also recall seeing some information regarding the propensity of the rear windshield defroster to short out. You may have a problem with the two circuits not being properly isolated. Do a good visual inspection of that rear door area and see if you find a problem.

Any open in the brake light circuit or a short between the two could lead to problems. The actual solenoid can be accessed and disconnected/removed if all else fails.

The reason they are cheaper from Will and Paul is because they salvage and sell used LR parts, not a cheap imitation.

These plastic units should not cost such a high retail price. For that much money, you should be able to buy high quality components instead of plastic pieces. As we all know, they are mass produced as cheaply as possible and the retail prices reflect a significant markup for individual replacement parts.

Try jumping the connectors on the back window as I suggested. Can you shift out of Park?
If NO then its probably the solenoid itself. There's lots of write ups on here about bypassing or removing it.
If YES then replace the brake light switch. $26 from RovahFarm.

You're not going to run off and buy one of those bonnet turds, are you?

Yes Will does also sell some new items. I wish he had a better webpage showing what he does offer/have in inventory. Everytime I have called him he has been very busy working on someones rig and did not have much time to field a lot of questions.

I have purchased a few things from him for my 97. He is very knowledgeable about the vehicles.

The point I was making is that the majority of new parts sellers have such a markup that finding the best price on the correct part is quite a challenge.

I welcome any good info on who to go to for that, but I abhor anyone who says "Hey, I have that in stock" then proceeds to charge top dollar. I refer to these as Rover Vultures and I know enough of them already. The only thing they want to help with is spending your money!
