Default Passenger Mirror View

From the driver's seat looking in the drivers side mirror I see the side of the truck, behind it, and out to the side. That's what I consider normal. However, looking at the passenger side mirror (adjusted all the way in) I only see out the side, barely behind the truck, and none of the side. Is it the same on yours? I've already adjusted it all the way in.

I dont know if this info is relevant, but here ya go...

On my D1, my wife and I can adjust the side mirrors to both of our liking. Im 6'2", shes 5'4".

On the D2 Im fine either way, but she says she cannot get the passenger mirror adjusted to her liking unless it is folded back one stop (i.e. a partial shipping setting).

I have been wondering this since I bought mine. It seems I have the mirror turned all the way in, and still can't see any of the car.

PS: I am 5' 11" and drive a 5 speed, so I need to be at the correct position for me to shift half decent

Eric...that doesn't sound right. The entire black housing of the side view mirrors folds in and out (perhaps to prevent taxi's from ripping them off when parked on the street) and has 2-3 'notches' or 'detents' that would serve to hold it in place. On top of that the mirror pivots within the housing. I can't really understand how yours operates (or doesn't).

That's normal for one of the mirrors. I cannot remember which side. The mirrors are the same for left hand and right hand drive cars, just different glass is in them. One of the mirrors is supposed to be snapped back one notch. If you were driving for the other side of the car you snap one out and one in. I'm just talking about d2 though. It's been so long since I've had a d1 I don't recall if they are the same.

They're both snapped to the same point currently, otherwise they'd look odd being asymmetrical.

Well if it were a D2, I'd say, "There is your problem."

Default Dscvry 1: Passenger Mirror View

Hi, Eric. I have a 1997 Dscvry 1 since it was new, so I'm gonna go out on a limb here, and test my passenger mirror viewing range for you . (I'm not sure that body height matters that much with side-view mirrors, as it does with the rear-view mirror b/c I notice that my son adjusts the rear-view mirror when he drives our Dscvry, but doesn't adjust the side-view mirrors.)

Only problem is that I'm kinda confused by your post (no surprise b/c that's common for me ), so I'll print your post and compare what I see in my passenger mirror with what your wife says she sees and doesn't see . At my level of Land Rover technical skill, mirror viewing range is prolly one of the few accurate answers that I can actually post . But, I'm learning...

I didn't drive my Dscvry 1 to work today, so I gotta do it when I swap vehicles later or tomorrow. For whatever it's worth, I'll post my unscientific field test results asap.

Sorry, it was PinkyToe69 who was talking about his wife. I said I get confused; case in point!

With enough of a height discrepancy there is definitely a difference.

If I get in a car my wife was driving, all I see out of the side mirrors are the rear doors of the car I am in.
