It's been so long since I've had a d1 I don't recall if they are the same.
This is interesting.

Im confused though...arent the side mirrors the same on a D1 and D2?

Default Dscvry 1: Passenger Mirror View

I guess you got me on that one, PinkyToe! But, I did say, "I'm not sure", so I covered myself .

I'm kind of a trial and error person, so I'm always better off doing a field test before posting results. Also, my son is 6', and I'm 5'5", so the difference in our heights is not quite as much as the difference between yours and your wife's. That could be a contributing factor .

My bad!

Default Dscvry 1: Passenger Side-View Mirror

Sorry for delay in my reply, but it's been so hot in Phila that I let my Dsvry 1 sit under a shade tree, rather than risk the need to have it serviced by one . Sorry for bad joke, but, hey, it's Friday !

I just checked the operation and sight range of my side-view mirrors. I'll try to be clear in my description, but I apologize in advance for the lack of technical terminology . If questions, no prob; just be please patient if I get confused .

On my 1997 Dscvry 1, the black, plastic, outer frame of each side-view mirror has 3 possible positions. The black frame is adjusted manually by firmly pushing it with your hand. The 3 mirror positions are:

- Flush to the window; Pulled all the way in toward the vehicle: (I use this position when parking on narrow, busy roads to avoid losing a side-view mirror to traffic !) This position gives NO view from either side-view mirror.

- Position 1: "1 push" toward hood, and then mirror locks into position. I never use this position. Sitting up straight in my Driver's seat, this position gives a driver's side mirror view of my left arm & chest, the lower black trim on window, and the driver's door lock. Totally useless! I never use this position on the passenger side-view mirror either.

- Position 2: "2 pushes" toward hood, and then mirror locks into position. This is the position where I keep both my driver and passenger side-view mirrors while driving and parking. Once plastic frame is in this position, I adjust the glass differently for the driver side mirror vs. the passenger side mirror, using the round, black mirror adjustment ****, located to the left of the steering wheel, below the air vent.

>>Driver side-view mirror: I adjust glass mirror using **** in "L" position until the glass is straight (flat) and centered within the black plastic outer frame. When driver's side-view mirror glass is centered, there is about 1/4" clearance on either side of the mirror between the glass and its black plastic frame. In this position of mirror frame and glass, I can see the left side & rear of truck, trim of left rear lamp guard, and area behind the truck.

>> Passenger side-view mirror: I adjust glass mirror using **** in "R" position, and push that **** to the left until the glass stops moving and actually touches the passenger side-view mirror black plastic frame. Glass will click a few times when it cannot move any further to left. So, there is no clearance between the glass and plastic for this mirror on its left side; they touch. The glass is adjusted to the sharpest possible angle (diagonal) against its plastic frame. This glass position gives me the best side-view of the right side of truck, trim of right rear lamp guard, and area behind the truck.

As is said by umpires in MLB, I call 'em as I see 'em.

I hope that explanation helps and isn't too basic .

Hope all Land Rovers are surviving the heat! I made my SAAB do the dirty duty most of this week. Hey, why not? Its engineers claim that it's got a jet engine, so it should be able to soar in the heat !

Regardless of all the rear/side-view mirror information, I'm a city kid. So, I never make any side or reverse maneuvers in a moving vehicle without turning my head to look. Mirrors are just for a double-check, or an emergency, with a quick prayer that no one's hovering in the blind spot .

I, too, get more neck exercise! That's just my driver training .

Wow, all this over a side mirror LOL.
Fold your passenger side mirror housing in one click towards the truck. Then adjust your mirror with the **** as needed.
Next.

Look at it as a tactical move. Its less likely to get hit by a tree branch or whatever because its folded in more.
