Default Pinion seals

I'm going to replace the front pinion seal, and possibly the back this weekend.

Any advice, or tips???

Thanks

Remove drives haft from Pinion, drain Diff, remove flange, leverage out old seal, press in new one (I like to use the mud guard on the flange to seat it evenly and then tap it in a little deeper to keep it from rubbing on the flange), torque the pinion nut or bolt to the proper torque, bolt up drive shaft, refill gear oil.

What's the torque spec on that pinion bolt again, Ian?

Bolt is 100 Nm or 73.75 ft lbs. Big nyloc nut is 130nm or 95.88 ft lbs. Dont be like me and break off the bolt in the pinion. It's a major OH **** situation.

Thanks!

I'll update everyone as I go. I'll make a quick video too, if I think of it.

Check the input flanges to make sure they aren't scored where the seal lip rides. IIRC there's a little leeway how far to seat the seal in the bore if the flange is scored, but I may be thinking of the after market seals I sell. Might not be the case for OE, I haven't looked at one in a long time.

Any reason not to use an impact wrench to REMOVE the pinion nut/bolt?

That thing is really on there..........

It'll shock load the pinion bearings and pinion against the ring gear.
That said, I've been known to do it.
