Default Play in the front Diff

I know this has been covered a lot but just wanted to seek you all opinion on this. My front U-joints have gone bad on my 97 Disco which has 157K on the engine. The driveshaft is still original and rather then just replacing the front U-joints, I'm contemplating buying a new driveshaft from Tom Wood.

Any suggestions on this one and what would you do if it was your truck? Thanks

I would buy a tom wood but you have to decide which type of shaft you need. Do you have a lift?

Also by play in the front diff do you mean you have a bad u-joint?

I wouldn't waste the money for a new shaft if you are not lifted and your front shaft just needs 2 $14 u-joints.
You need to start greasing those joints at least twice a year.

Yes, the U-joints are bad and I am planning on lifting it this summer.

About greasing the joints, I can't find the points on the front diff to grease it as this one seems to have sealed u-joints or am I missing something.

Look in the cross for a zerk fitting.

How much lift? if it's 2" or less you dont NEED a DC front shaft

I have a GRB front shaft I am going to be selling once my Tom Woods gets back from being rebuilt.

Yes, not going any bigger then 2" as it's my daily driver. Looking at the Terra Firma kits

Why are you selling the GRB in exchange for the Tom Wood?

I bought the GBR so I would have a shaft to run while I send my Tom Woods back to be rebuilt. Nothing against GBR the shafts are similar, same size u-joints ect.. I have a convential GBR shaft in the rear

I may keep the front shaft and run it on the tray back

If you do decide to sell it, let me know. I'm about to crawl under my Disco right now. Oh, how I miss having a garage
