rattle on cold start up

Hi
I haven't owned the car long hence, I don't have a clue what oil is in there. What grade would you recommend (150k) ?
And yes the noise is in the engine compartment, it's not terrible it just seems louder with more of a rattle for the first few minutes. It is also just on tickover when it's noisy, if it's revved closer to 1000rpm from cold there is definitely less of a rattle.

Johntom,
You may wish to take advantage of the free download of the RAVE, a collection of Rover service and owners manuals. Many times it can guide you without having to wait for some one to jump in and reply. People are on this forum from around the world, so time zones also play a part.
To whet your appetite for Rover knowledge, here is the oil page from the owner's manual. Many users enjoy using a diesel rated oil like Shell Rotella because of extra detergent properties that help clean up an engine that has missed changes in the past. Won't re-grow metal, but will clean up some gunk.
