Jeepers. Please let us know what happens to your mpg, as I have one side that's straight-piped like that right now and I'm curious to know how much my mpg might improve if I replace the whole Y pipe.
Just a little obstruction....... I wanna know who did the welding? You know it's gonna pop a CEL. Raise the two post cat O2's just out of the exhaust stream, worked for me. They sniffed a difference.
Vandi, rather than replacing the Y pipe you can replace the cats (for emissions) with higher flow. The original Rover Y pipes are made to withstand a nuclear blast, I wouldn't toss them because they're excellent to weld on after a little clean up.
Yep, I forgot to have him weld me in some bungs. I have time. It wasn't me who did the welding. It popped onto the manifold studs without any issues. (I haven't taken the heads off yet)

Now that's a nice option, unfortunately I don't have the capacity to weld. Where would you recommend buying standalone cats from, and I guess any exhaust shop can weld them up for me?
