Default Rear Bumper Removal Thoughts?

Rear bumper is dinged up front a light pole. I was thinking of just removing it rather than replacing it. There's more important things I'd rather spend the money on as far as the truck running. I was looking for info on how to do it, functionality ( what I'd loose as far as break lights etc.) And what it will look like after I do. Also should I treat what's under there with anything now that it will be exposed? Pics would be great if you've removed yours.

It is illegal in all 50 states to drive with no front or rear bumper.
Not only will you turn signals not work properly your fuel tank will be exposed and unprotected.

Many pickup trucks came without a rear bumper.

Yea, in NY, you need a front bumper, but they don't care about a rear.

But, I would never go without one. Seems like almost everytime I off-road, I end up backing into something(tree, stump, rock, midgets, etc)

Edit: Sorry, to be politically correct, I meant little people, not midgets.

steel rear bumpers are cheaper than front steel bumpers. so get a steel one! or just take the plastic off and bolt a 4x4 on there and set the lights into it. lolz.

WHEW - for a minute I thought you were slighting midget rocks....er...I mean...Pebbles.

And - FWIW - I would also never go without the rear bumper. I can control what I hit - but not the idiots that want to hit me.

I think they are all bent on that side, I'd just drive it like it is, until you can get a replacement.
