Rear Drive Shaft Disintegrating

Rear Drive Shaft Disintegrating
Proud owner of a 1996 Disco SE7. Longtime reader, first time poster. Noticed severe vibration from rear drive shaft. Went under the car and here is what I saw, rear drive disintegrating.
Wanted to pulse the group and and see if this is a whole drive shaft replacement or just the coupler going to the rear axle.
Also curious what caused the friction and wear. Thanks in advanced.

Update
thanks all for the help. I replaced the rotoflex. When I unbolted the driveshaft from the rotoflex, the bearing in the driveshaft looked cracked so I decided to replace that. That was a mistake as getting it out required me the chisel the side of the bearing so it collapsed on itself. I managed to get the driveshaft off the vehicle but couldn’t get it back on. I drove with the front drive shaft to a mechanic to pop the rear drive shaft back on and then I swapped out the rotoflex and the car is running great now

Sorry to hear you spent your money on another rotoflex joint.
They are a POS that will begin to vibrate and fail again.
You would of been money ahead if this a "keeper vehicle" and replaced the driveshaft with
one having a real steel U-joint with a four bolt pinion flange.
Waiting for a sale on these items and saving some coin is the best long term solution.
I replaced the original right after purchasing my D1 from the PO who hadn't a clue about a vibration problem.
Second then third rotoflex ( 3rd a freebie by dealership) failure I gave up installing a real U-joint, shaft, seal and pinion flange.
Mr. Rotoflex never liked the 4.6 engine with cam and chip plus 5 speed combination i'm running. So far at 70K miles later zero vibrations and no U-joint failures.

My 1997 has a u-joint. I am the original owner. Unless the dealer did a swap "on the house" (I never paid for one, that is for sure) at least some 97's came with u-joints. Or at least mine did.
