Default rear view mirror problem

My 97 Discovery XD has a problem with the rear view mirror. The rear view mirror has lost all of its silvering. Can this be re silvered or does it require a full replacement? These are fairly expensive ($150). Thanks for any help. Mike

Contact one of the dismantlers in my link below. I'm sure they are way below that price. Like vintage jewelry, no one has to know you did not pay full dealer price.

Go to any glass shop and have them glue on a GM rear view mirror button (mount), that will cost you about $10.
Then go buy a GM rear view mirror from anywhere you want, a junk yard, a auto parts store, anywhere and mount it up.

And important point if head that diection - let glass shop remove existing mount. Many have pried on them and cracked front windshield in a variety of vehicles....

Or just leave it, thats what I did, just left it and had them put the GM mount just to the left of the OEM mount.

I am trying to replace my rear view mirror in my '98 Disc that has auto dimming & map lights with a newer model Rover mirror that has auto dimming & compass (couldn't find exact duplicate locally). Any ideas how to tell which of 3 wires in new mirror is hot, neutral, ground? The new mirror had no connector so had to cut the wires at junk yard & are different colors from old mirror. (The new colors are black, white/grn, grn/brwn if that is any help).
Thanks for any help

Get a D2 mirror. You'll lose the map lights but gain a compass.

And if you get an 03-04 you'll get homelink too.... not sure how much work to hook all that up or if the mounts are exactly the same though.

The D1's have Homelink as a separate unit from the rear view mirror.
