Rebuilding my v8
I saw the plastiguage so knew checking clearances but saw a photo with the main bolts on that I didn't know if was before or after clearance checking.
Are bearings called caps in Rover speak? I alway though the caps were the big metal pieces not the piece being replaced. Either way I meant between the crank journals and the new piece coming in (which I call bearings). It is important not to lube between the other side of the bearing and the piece of metal (which I call bearing caps but not 100 percent on names).
Also make sure to replace Rob bearing bolts as they are stretch

Well... sheit.
Ran into a slight snag. The front camshaft bearing's ID is smaller than the OD of the camshaft. Not sure if I got the wrong bearings, all of the other bearings seem to fit great.
Luckily my fiancee's grandpa had a cam bearing tool so I popped the cam bearing out thinking the machine shop had mucked it up... Unfortunately even out of the block I can't get the bearing to slide over the camshaft.
Other than that, I cleaned the block some more and honed the cylinders with a stone type honing tool. I'm really happy how the hone came out... I had poor luck in the past honing cylinders with a stone type tool instead of a bottle brush.

I have a set of Mitutoyo ($$$$$$$$$$$$) micrometers coming so I can get exact measurements, but for a simple check the plastigauge let me know the machine shop didn't mess anything up.
I have brand new Land Rover rod bolts that I will be using.
Not sure how much your cam isn't clearing by but I have line honed on other engines in the past. But if you got finished bearings you shouldn't have to. That said of the new bearings are out of tolerance then perhaps it's cheaper and better to get a replacement.
Is it a new cam?
Is it a new cam?

I've been meaning to order a oil pump and since the cam bearings I ordered weren't pre-finished bearings, I went ahead and ordered both.
I really wanted to use RovahFarm, but he doesn't have pre-finished bearings for the 4.0 listed on his site. Learning my lesson from other US based vendors, I tried a UK based vendor that I have heard a bit about, Turner Engineering.
Ordered a Oil Pump and STC1961 bearings from them just now for a grand sum of $121 shipped. Let's see how long they take to get from the UK.
