Default Recovering DII Owner Thinking About A DI. Am I crazy?

I've decided I have LR in my blood. I've always loved these trucks and keep finding myself coming back to them when it comes time to buy a new vehicle. Even against my better judgement...
I owned a '04 Disco for a while and basically had my *** handed to me with mechanical issues. I loved driving that thing when it ran, but that wasn't very often. I found that I could never relax in it. After replacing U-Joints, gaskets (all of them), sunroof motors and seal kits, and dealing with the 3 Amigos off and on, I was always nervous on long trips. Add to it the "need" to use premium gas and the expense was just too much.
It's now time for me to buy another vehicle and I'm looking at various LRs (mainly Defender 90s and DIs). I've found a 97 w/ 141k miles on the engine, new starter, hoses, 3"lift, and from the pictures I've seen the body looks to be in good shape. The seller is asking 2k, but the issue is that all the gaskets need to be replaced. If the body is in good shape and I can get the price down, I am fine with the gasket work. What worries me is getting into another money/mechanical pit and not enjoying the truck. Any thoughts or sage advice? Thanks all

What does "all the gaskets" mean? Does that include head gaskets? The simplicity of the D1 is its beauty. It is basically a tinker toy with a somewhat wacky electronics package on it.

Yes, please elaborate on "all the gaskets".
Also, as with any almost 20yo vehicle the wear items are at or pasy their life expectancy. Bushings, hoses, gaskets, TRE's and ball joints, seals, etc. You'll want to check all those closely and make an offer accordingly.

All the gaskets meaning head, valve cover, intake. I'm going into this assuming that all the other maintenance issues haven't been addressed ("Bushings, hoses, gaskets, TRE's and ball joints, seals, etc.").

I laughed out loud at this. I have a short commute and don't drive much, so it'll be my daily driver. But, I also want to turn it into an overlanding beast.
