Replacing the Rear End
Gentlemen,
I have a bad flange where the RotoFlex and rear end mate. I bought a replacement rear flange but have not gotten around to replacing it yet.
Today, I checked with a drivetrain shop to see what they would charge to do the labor for me, the guy said probably 120 to 130, he' ll have to take a look at it.
I called the local recycler and they have a 98 DI that has the four bolt flange with no rotoflex. I can get the driveshaft and rear end both for $150.
I think I'll go ahead and grab the 98 driveline. How complicated/what is involved in swapping the rear end out?
All input appreciated.

Danny, its almost as easy as changing brakes. Drain oil out, remove driveshaft, pull axles out, remove diff, insert new diff, install axles, refill with oil, install new driveshaft. Just make sure the spider gears an pin arent worn out on the diff your puting in. Hardest part is removing the diff and reinstalling the new one that things kinda heavy and akward to handle. All in all it easier then trying to get to the O2 sensor plug on these things LOL.
At the price, I really want to go ahead and grab them. Harbor freight has some good sale prices on jacks and dollys and such. I can get them for a little more than paying someone to install the flange I got. I have to find it first, my damn garage and basement workshop are a total mess right now.
When I find the flange I bought, I'll most likely put it in myself and grab those other ones, I 'll then have time to check it out and make sure it's all good. I can get that rear end for about the same price as a new rotoflex.
Anybody looking for any DI stuff. They have an alternator available as well.

Danny, unless you NEED to replace the rear end now, I think you can just replace your flange with the non rotoflex set up....I have what I believe to be both style flanges here in my hands and it looks simple...the drive shaft will bolt to either flange. Once the driveshaft / ujoint assy is out of the way there is only one bolt or nut holding the flange on.....
Here's a great write up over at Disco web. Seems like you just need to plan well and everything should take you less than a few hours. http://www.discoweb.org/rotoconversion.htm
The rotoflex flange is a 3 bolt configuration while the ujoint is a 4 bolt setup. I am going to do this on my land rover once I put the 2 inch lift on it. Until then I am replacing the rotoflex so my rear drive shaft doesn't destroy everything back there if/when the rotoflex decides to fly apart. BA has a conversion kit with a rear drive shaft included also. Driveshaft Conversion Kit for Discovery I | Land Rover wheels, tires, hubs, axles
What do you guys think would be the cheapest way to do this conversion? A new rear drive shaft would be comforting haha
