Returning to the D1 World, help choosing a new Disco?
What's going on all, hope everything has been good. Well after selling my Disco since I thought I was going to be staying on the west coast with little time for off roading, but recently found out I'll be moving east with all the snow and rain that entails. If I can get a good D1 that requires few fixes, the cheap cost compared to a newer, economical car and my ability to fix anything that goes wrong will at worst cost me roughly $1500 more over the next three years (the length of time I plan on keeping this Disco), which is something I'm ok with, so I'd like to pick another one up.
I know what to look for, just trying to gauge what everyone thinks is a good deal for an older D1? I really am trying to avoid the DII as I don't want to have to deal with electronics (won't have the space or time to do much more than I already know), don't want to rebuild the drive shaft, deal with amigos, etc, and I'm familiar with the DI. I was originally looking for something really low mileage that might cost more, but my first Disco taught me that miles don't hide all problems, so now I'm trying to gauge what's a good mileage cap to set while still keeping them relatively low as I plan to keep her for three years. I think a cheaper Disco that requires a few fixes would end up being less expensive than a low mileage one requiring a massive fix. I don't know the differences between the preignition ones but I'm currently looking at something like:
1995 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY, CLEAN TITLE, LOW MILEAGE!!
Which, if relatively free of troubles and I can talk the seller down would be something I'm interested in. Of course I'd never take the first Disco I see, but I'm wondering if people think something like that would be a good deal. I've still got parts from my old Disco as well like new rotors so it would be good to stick to a DI. Thanks for the thoughts in advance.

Yea, I'm definitely going to be looking at multiple Disco's, I was really trying to use that as an example of whether we're into deal territory or just ok. My previous experiences gives me some guidance with pricing and whatnot, but it's still reassuring to have other opinions. I'm still wrestling with going over the 100k mark for a car since I never have, but it's getting easier with prices (I'm not exactly strapped at the moment thankfully but I'd rather put money to other things that will grow with time if I can) being lower and again, realizing that even a low mileage D1 like my old 55k miler can have many more problems than a 100K plus.
Now I guess I should ask: what does everyone consider "high mileage" or old? Considering I'm hoping to have this last for three or so years, I was thinking anywhere from 90-115kish would be suitable, and I'll be driving less than the average so at the end of those years she'd probably be at about 140k if she started at the higher end. I feel like you don't see too many disco's at 170k, but at the same time that would be about the average for a car from 95 or 96.

I would definitely stay away from that one. Like was pointed out, they just sprayed the whole damn thing very recently, that is a good sign of hiding what it used to look like. It may even be a Rebuid (Check title for R= Reconstructed)
But you are definitely in luck. I have a sweet 97 SE with just under 114K (edit 124K) miles on it that is already here on the east cost (Pittsburgh Pa area) that I have been babying for the last few years.
The CDL is smooth as butter, driveshaft replaced to do away with the Rotoflex, new brakes all around after I bought it. Sunroofs work fine and do not leak.
I think you would love it.

Thanks for all the advice all, and thanks for your offer Danny. I'm still tentatively looking around but I have a feeling I'm going to still be looking next month when I'm headed back east and would be interested if you still have her. If not, as always thanks for the help you've given me up here.

Just to update everyone, search is going pretty poorly lol. Not too many good quality discos out there, but then again the first time I rushed and paid for it so I'm willing to wait (might be seeing you in may Danny lol).
Gonna check out this one today, looking for vehicle history now. Although its got those quirks depending on what the owner did if I can get him to like 2400 or so I may bite as the cosmetic stuff I can fix if the engine is good. What do you all think?
