Rock Sliders, Buy or Make?
Hello, Ive been told that rock sliders can be fabricated from the confront of your garage. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions about DIY it or leave it to the pros.
Thanks Collin

Everything is cheaper if you DIY.
The only issues: DIY requires R&D, patience, skill, and the proper tools.
As far as rock sliders go, you should be able to fab up something comparable in function for 1/3 the cost; if not less. Just make sure you know the function of the 'real' rock sliders before you go bolting some crap on your rig and try banging it up. You will be sorry.

The one thing to keep in mind is the slider and rocker on the D1 has a curve. If you search these forums you will find a post I remember seeing of a diy straight set of sliders. For a fit that follows the rocker body line it has to have a slight curve to it. I don't want to discourage but just point that out.
I just got some made by Tactical Rovers. They have a video on Youtube (Discoveries Offroad) where they are developing them. They are the nicest ones I've seen. They mold to the curve and have a nice taper as well. I'll have pics in a week or so. I'm finishing painting them (opted out of powdercoating) and I'm heading out of town so this project will have to wait, but you can check them out on Tactical Rover's site.
Of course, I wouldn't discourage you from making your own. Personally, I do not have the shop facilities and won't for the forseeable future. Also, I am mostly going for the end result (wheelin this thing) and not so much the process (building it).
