Default rompin' through the mud!

Hey guys just a couple questions, The other day i went through this mud hole... Nothing serious id say a little over the rockers no where close to the door handles... And half way through the rover just died... I put it in N and started it back up and the idle was soooooo low like under 500RPMS... Why did i expierence such a power loss?

If there was a lot of water splashing around you probably got your ECU wet. I got mine wet at the car wash and had to stop at a friends place on the way home to let it dry out. When I replaced my battery, I rewrapped all that under the hood wire bundles because the original wrap had decayed. I am also condering relocating the ECU to a better spot.

How fast were you going? The wrong way to drive though mud or water is as fast as you can, do it wrong and you can suck water into the engine and hydro lock it which means your buying a new engine.

Nice and slow is the way you drive though water gradually picking up speed until you get a nice bow wake and then you hold that speed until you exit the water.
The once out of the water you apply the brakes while drivng slow to heat them up and dry them out.
Now I know this is no fun and all the tv ads show mud flying but they get their trucks for free.

This is how it is done, notice the water at the hood line when I turn the corner.

I just water proofed my ecm, Might do a writeup, but there aint much to explain. grab a Tube of Silicone remove the covers, line the edges of the covers with silicone and replace. Then go around the outside of the wire harness connectors.

What Spike says about how to drive through water it absolutely correct. I learned that lesson the hard way. Hydrolocked a year old crate 6.5L GM diesel. $3500 for the engine, $750 to do a basic rebuild after a year and never got it running right. Sold the truck after 2 years of fighting with the engine for $2500.

I didnt like slam into the mud or anything, It wasnt super thick, I approached it at a steady speed and tryed keeping that speed all the way through and it died. The engine was well over the water, My exhaust was submerged, So im always afraid of back pressure suckin in water, Or some weird thing like that happening.
