Default Roof Rack Options?

So we're wanting some sort of roof basket to toss up on top of the Disco but were curious what options were out there if any other than the full length $900+ baskets? They look great but we cant afford to shell out almost a grand on a metal basket. Are there any companies that make something similar for a little less? Something that's not full length that would attach to the factory cross bars would even do the trick.

i traded a surco rack that i got with my truck recently, was a nice setup for someone looking for a smaller, lighter, easier to remove basket

it was a 50" x 50"

im fairly certain summit sells them, but anyway if you do a search for the name it should pop up

if you're not looking for a full rack you can sometimes come across the ARB half racks used for a decent amount. The last one i recall seeing went for around 350 with the rover specific fit kit..

Sounds like we need to come up with some good sturdy racks that could just replace those silly factory bars. They just bolt thru the roof anyway. And the factroy ones are not rated very high at all.

I was pondering on that myself. Use the existing holes to route some wires. Mount a sturdy unit with some pipe flanges or something solid instead of spending a grand on a fancy basket that clamps to the roof rails.

Some of you CAD Wizards should develop something.

Searched around and found quite a few that just clamp to the factory rack so we'll probably go that route. I love the look of the full racks but I cant grasp spending a grand on something I can weld up myself for about $200. I pretty much just want one that I can toss up there when needed but can be easily removed if I wish. If I could figure out a way to fab up the brackets that clamp to the roof seams like the factory full length racks I would make one myself.
