One thing I noticed and want to ask about is when is it best to have the CDL locked vs unlocked in the terrain you guys were crossing.

The limited off-road trails I have done in my 97, I went ahead and put it in Low on the transfer case, first or second gear with the automatic tranny to use engine braking and avoid too much need for brakes, and engaged the diff lock right at the beginning of the trail. We had a long puddle to cross that the first few tore up badly, I hit it with momentum and went right thru with no problems. I did leave the diff locked the entire trail ride.

I noticed with the videos that it appeared that your diff's were not locked from the action of the wheels, is that correct? Since some of the wheels were immobile while others were spinning or am I wrong to think that?

My wheeling with the Disco is very limited but I see LongHaul is quite adept at it.

Turf is still learning but jumped right in. The dog looked like he was enjoying it, but was ready to leap out the window if the time came.

the dog was forced to leap out of the window at one point. he was not happy about it.

i keep my cdl locked all the time. the only time it sucks is there is one really curvy tight trail #14 at Rausch and it's hard to make turns with it engaged. don't forget the D2's have traction control. so im running a truck with TC and a center locking diff.

I pretty mutch leave my CDL locked in from the time I hit the trail head till I'm ready to head down the road home. I have ARB lockers front and rear on mine and I only engage them as needed or if I know itll make an obstacle easier to overcome.

OK, that is what I wanted to know, I thought I was correct with it's use. I did forget that the DII had the TC and did not think about individual differences with optional lockers.

Was John there with his Ex-MOD or Sir Jagspeed with The Royal MeatWagon ( MOD Ambulance) maybe Disco Bill, The Prez (Mark, old Series and Disco). There are some new ones I haven't met. I got to get back together with those guys again soon. They do great rides around Ligioner and a few other places. You can view their ride videos at FPLRG.COM

In the pics below you can see Heather then Dave stuck in the mudhole, that is the same mudhole in the second pic. I was the last one thru the puddle, and my pic was taken from the top of the hill after I crossed thru the puddle. The first pic is us at the top with John in his FreeLander, the last pic is John with his MOD after he sold the Freelander to his nephew.

They are indeed a fine group of Characters and Vehicles of Interest.

Big jump from a FreeLander to a Series ExMOD. That last pic is mine after I got home that day on the trail.

We should get all of you guys together for a nice weekend outing of beer drinking and hell-raising on the trails..
