thanks.

almost? don't you think the good sheet is worth it?

i got all my sheet and diamondplate for free. the expense was on the quality paints, sealers, caulking that i used.

now (yes still) i have to deal with my roof/alpine rust. as well as firewall.

He paid me $2500 for the repair work. His truck only had 75K miles on it and he uses it for his surveying business-I'm sure his accountant was involved.

I offered to sell him the body of the '97 I have with little to no rust, but he wanted that one put back together.

Wow, nice.

So, did you cut out and treat what you could, then rivet sheet metal right over the top of that?

PT..what is the black coating you used ?

pinkytoe....the sheet metal is the cheap part , and the the size of the panels you will need dont cost any more no matter whether you weld them in or rivet them in. Get some panels ready....rivet them in for now, save for a welder( you're gonna want one sooner or later) or find someone who'll work within your budget to weld them for you. Then drive it like ya stole it !

Yeah, I assumed the price for the complete and proper solution would be exorbitant. Thats why I just want to get it good enough. My main concern is the safety of that seat mount. It does seem to attached to a support beam-ish looking part of the body, so that is good.

I have no grandiose visions of this thing lasting forever. Just hope to get 5 fun years or so out of it.

I just wanted to add...

Driving it to the shop for the rust estimate was the first time I had actually driven it more than just a half mile down the road after replacing the fuel pump to verify the thing ran.

These things are oddly satisfying to drive! Bumbling down the road on your elevated throne, you cant help but crack a smile.

Surprisingly tourquey too!

If these didn't have charisma, most of us wouldn't bother keeping them.

It was primed with stupidly expensive Dupont etching primer and covered with KBC epoxy paint. A POR-15 substitute.
