Default Rust Hole On Rear Muffler

Hey All,

I have a golf-ball-sized rust hole on the outer casing of my rear muffler. Been meaning to replace it, but I'm not sure which direction I should go in terms of parts (genuine vs. OEM).

Both AB and RN have parts, but it seems you have to order nearly the entire exhaust system or only the center muffler (I may be missing something).

I also found this OEM part for a great price: http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/sk...%26+Drivetrain

1. Has anyone here had to replace all or part of their exhaust system, and if so, can it be done without welding?

2. Are Bosal mufflers an acceptable replacement for the D1 muffler?

3. Any better recommendations?

Thanks!

AB has the complete cat back exhaust for $300 with free shipping.

You can just cut off the rear muffler and run a pipe out the back, you can take the truck to a local muffler shop and get a price.
The Midas here will do custom exhaust with one muffler from the cats back for $150+tax.
I need the entire exhaust, my center muffler is gone and being held together by banding strips until I have the money to replace it.

Imrunning a magnaflow setup that doesnt have the rear muffler and I like the sound it produces. Its really no morw louder without it. You can cut it off completely and just use a short pipe instead.

a decent muffler shop will be the easiest and cheapest route. they can probably redo it cheaper than you can buy the parts.

Thanks, Spike! I didn't see this kit in my search on AB.

So, it sounds like I could buy this and take the parts to a Midas or similar muffler shop and have then install it, yes?

In other words, this may not be a self-install job?

Cheers!

Do it yourself, unbolt it from the y-pipe, unhook it from the hangers and throw it in the recycling.
Then install the new kit.

It you take it in and have them install the new exhaust you will spend more than if they just replaced you exhaust for you.
You do not have to use a LR exhaust, exhaust is exhaust.

Just take the truck to a muffler shop and get a estimate.
get one estimate with both mufflers and one without.
If its $350 let them do it, if its $500 order from AB, if its $200 then thats a no brainer.

Most chain places like Midas WILL NOT install anything but what they sell. They usually want to do a "package" deal. They will even tell you the labor is "free" at times, it's covered by their markup on their parts.

When my rear muffler rotted out, I bought a universal fit thrush turbo off ebay for like $25, "rented" a tailpipe-cutter tool from autozone(had to get a clamp anyway), cut the old one off as close to the muffler as possible and clamped the new one on. All I had to do was measure the old one up to size a new one. Have maybe $40 into it.
