I removed the entire plastic. I was going to put the end pieces back on, but decided that was a waste to hang that flimsy plastic back up on there just to hide the goofy looking ends.
I want a new simple, sensible front bumper without spending a small fortune on buying one retail. Might have to go to the local Vo-Tech School and take a class or two in my spare time and work on the rust and cut down the fenders and build a good bumper, some sliders, and some covers for the underbelly, diffs and such. That would be a fun thing to do this winter.
I mounted two overlapping pieces of expanded metal instead of using the flimsy gutter screen. It covers from headlight to headlight from the top of the frame members to the the top of the radiator.

yes. of course choice one is a simple all metal bumper with a winch that can pull a mini out of a puddle (just had the chance to do it). second choice is a mod like this. it looks better and although those plastic bits are a bit poser-ish, it's better than all plastic or no plastic in my opinion. i'm doing it.
yeah Danny, BE about it. take that class. i sure would.

I taped it just above the crease and cut below the tape. The only tricky part is when it wraps around towards the front.

so that dark spot right in the middle, you cut at the top line of the crease?

No, the bottom line. I ran the tape (painter's tape) in the crease area, lining the bottom tape edge with the bottom part of the crease. Then I cut at the bottom edge of the tape. This allows caps to have the same angled bottom as the steel bumper.
