Well I have removed a bunch of old shocks and a good fire wrench has never failed me. You do need to pay close attention to what is around the bolt, or whatever. You can go half way and warm up the nut and spin it off, or a pull on the trigger and the whole thing is gone. A very versatile tool if you know how to use it and when to use it. I have found that on some exhaust systems, a sawzall can work better than a torch . Depends on the circumstances.

shock is out and new one is in place! only took about an hour, laying in the street, on a hill, with my messed up knee and everything. That means I just paid myself $160-$215 for less than an hour of work!! Old shock didn't even feel bad but the rubber bushing was melted on the top and no way to just change that so the whole shock went in.
