Default Was shopping, now success!

My thread here:

Shopping for D1 or RRC in SEMICH

Is now concluded with a purchase. I looked at numerous vehicles, most were too far off in several ways, a few were so very close and a couple were part of the final decision.

Ultimately I ended picking up a '99 D1 SD. It was a bit over my budget (especially since I had it shipped from AZ) but it has mods on it that were part of my 4 month plan anyway, so I borrowed against the future budget which ultimately will save me a few $$$. It's due to arrive on Monday afternoon, will post pics when it arrives. I bought it from a forum member though so attached a couple pics.

Current mods include 265BFG's on NATO steelies, 2" OME lift, ARB bumper w/Warn 9k, Detroit locker in the rear, sliders...couple other nifty things.

I've got a few plans for changes to suit my tastes a bit but I can't wait til this gets here. Entire process was pretty painless but I tend to do well with handshake sorta deals, that's pretty much how I operate.

So I'll be posting more, I'll be sure to post questions, answers, projects, etc.

Thanks for everyone's help and input on this, much appreciated.

Cheers.

I'm looking to switch to 235/85 tires, probably Duratrac's vs the 265's BFG's that are on it. Also considering ditching the NATO's for stock alloy....prefer the stock look more. I won't be doing any rock crawling, mainly mud/trail work so I think the stock wheels can handle that. I'm on the fence about this though, partly depends on what the NATO's are worth.

I'd like to swap the Flexiflares for something else....gonna try D2 lips though from research I already know that will be a bit of work to properly support them. Not sure how much these are cut yet so we'll see.

Gonna look at some skid plates for pinion and elsewhere underneath. I may fab my own just to do my own, also remains to be seen. I'll be selling the 1/2 roof rack in favor of a full rack with some additional lighting. From the little research I've done here the Rover Racks Voyager pretty much fits the bill nicely though damn, those things ain't cheap. In the past I've used a Yakima set up but by the time I get enough pieces that to cover a large area up there it's gonna cost nearly the same or more. Dunno yet on this...frankly shipping will be a cost factor as well.

At some point I'd like to add a TrueTrac in the front, that should couple nicely with the Detroit in the rear. Oh, and not sure how much I'll be fording but I plan to set it up for that as well, definitely a snorkel and some waterproofing underhood. I need to read more about this though....seems there's a proper way to set up for this vs just adding a snorkel and hitting the river.

Lastly, though earlier than some other things listed...it has sliders so I need to inspect those and see how they fit. I have some plans from Mike that look kickass, I might try to do those for myself.

Anyway, lots of plans and the truck isn't even here yet, heh. I'm thinking there will be some mild maintenance to do as well, I know it's up to snuff but preventative vs repairative is the motto.

Family is heading up to spend 10 days in da UP this summer and I plan to do some trail running, definitely some camping. Will be spending several days in the Keweenaw area, my wife and I both attended school at da Tech, time to show the kids.

Cheers.

Yeah, thanks. Took a bit but definitely worth it in the end to find a nice rust free truck. I expect many years of highly enjoyable service from it. Once my son gets a bit older we'll take on an RRC resto project. Time now is to learn basics and enjoy using it, he won't have the patience to do more work than fun.

Cheers.

Yeah, we'll see. The area under the rear doors on the body side doesn't look overly cut so I'm hoping the rest matches that. In the front I can always just get new fenders, same with rear doors. Rear fenders is another story though........

Cheers.

Took me 9 months of hard looking to find my truck.

NATO's are worth $50 each, you can buy a brand new set for around $400.

Well, may just hang on to them then but I'm still looking to pick up some stock alloys, cheap enough to do. I like the flat 5 spoke of the RRC so I'm on the hunt for those. Picked up a couple already for cheap so need 3 more.

Cheers
