Should I have full coverage on a 1996 truck?
Hello Good People,
I'm curious on what coverage people have on their D1s.
I was picking up a few items at a store that was playing an episode of Judge Judy where she said "No one has full coverage on a 20yr vehicle"!
I thought really!
I understand discounts when bundled with other items on a policy, but I am interested in who is not rocking full insurance coverage and why.

It would depend on how cheap the insurance premium w deductible is. Like if they are giving you free insurance.
But, normally NO full coverage. Most of the time after a collision the insurance company will total the car for about $1500 if you are lucky. And forget getting extra money for add-ons/mods unless you pay a stupid high rate. Same goes if the truck is stolen...you get book value. Which is ALMOST NOTHING. IMHO, full coverage on a '96 Disco, not so much.

If you are going with the full coverage be sure the insurance rider lists all parts you want covered separately. If it reads "accessories", you get F'd. This insurance quote is going to be crazy.
Have you ever noticed why there are so many Disco in junkyards/pick&pulls with not a ton of damage.... because in most states if the damage is more than 75% of the value of the vehicle it gets totaled. A simple accident will total a $1500 (BV) truck fast. Your call, Good Luck!
Don't have full coverage on mine. Got rear-ended back in April. Busted bumper tail-light, tweaked bumper and spare carrier, and bent hitch support. Other driver's insurance was All-State (late model Nissan Versa, totaled). They cut me a check for $1,600. Any more than that, it would have been totaled.
Replaced the tail-light, shocks, and springs.

I have full coverage on all my rovers , and yes it seems pointless when you spend so much for insurance and then when you need it they want to total it for less than you feel the truck is worth.....the only way i could get glass coverage is with "full coverage"
damned if ya do, damned if ya dont

Last fall I had 2 (yes 2) deer hits aw week apart. firstone was with my 2009 smart, total damage was $3000, and it wasn't covered as I did not have full coverage. This is the car I usually drive about 100 miles to work and back daily. I then bought a 2004 Buick Century, 6 g days later someone else hit a deer and it ended up in front of me. With no where else to go, I drove over the top of it and took out the sway bar and both front wheel bearings, and front cross mount for the radiator. I had full coverage and got a check for $1800.. I paid $600 for the car. I bought the car back from the insurance company for $175, fixed it and my smart car with the insurance check. I put full coverage on both cars... This spring I got rock damage from some road construction and ended up with a windshield replacement.
I'll stick with full coverage as it would help with replacing a vehicle if something happens.
