Yep. Especially since it has the R380. Make sure that sucker shifts fine. These are not known for "spirited" shifting. Then once you have it, switch the fluid to Redline MTL. If it still has ATF in it, you'll be doing it a favor.

You got it backwards. He is looking to trade his auto D1 for a manual D1.

I've decided not to because like the saying goes, the devil you know is better than the one you don't. And I know what's wrong with mine. The only things that drew me closer to trading was the fact it was a 5 speed and the CDL wasn't frozen. When I get around to that diesel swap it won't matter either way.

No, I don't. NAS DIs with the R380 called for ATF. Down the road, ROW ones went from ATF to Texaco MTF 94 - for some reason LR didn't push this out to the NAS owners. Redline MTL has better cold flow properties than the MTF 94 and works great in the R380 (and for any other manual transmission which called for ATF from the factory, like the T5 in my pickup).

Yup, I didn't read your post thoroughly enough.

No worries. Just don't want an unsuspecting reader to come along and be confused/misled.

You better trade. If not, I'm coming down there and doing it myself.

Well I looked her Rover over, and it's in bad shape. It has starting issues and when I went to look at it earlier it wouldn't start. All the lights are on and all that jazz. I'm not feeling up to letting one beast for a far more menacing one. I mean besides the mechanical stuff being all crazy mine LOOKS better.

As the current owner of the truck Ed references above, I 2nd his recommendation. It still may not win any races, but I'd drop my AT in a heartbeat now that I've driven the 5-spd for a few months.

I don't know that I'd walk away just because it wouldn't start. How well do you know this person? it isn't like you won't know where to find her, eh? I'd check it out really closely, negotiate an even better deal, and make her get it running right before you actually make a trade...
